We are a Christian mission organisation called " Hamba Ekukanyeni - Walk in The Light Ministries " based here on a farm 10 km outside Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

Our mission is to meet the desperate needs of disadvantaged black children, widows and caregivers in our area, more pertinently orphaned children whose parents have succumbed to AIDS and poverty, and whose lives have no future.
We felt God's call to "look after orphans and widows" (James 1:27), thus fulfilling James 2:14-17 (Putting faith into action), and 1 John 3:17 (Putting love into action). Our Principles are Christian, and our focus is to feed the hungry, provide clothes where necessary, pay school fees where there are no funds, and give hope in Jesus Christ.

The focus of the mission is founded on caring both for the Spiritual and Physical needs of African children, widows and caregivers affected by poverty and the AIDS epidemic, from a township called Haniville, with a population of 10 000 people.

God has called us to:

  • feed the hungry,
  • give drink to the thirsty,
  • clothe the naked,
  • take in the strangers and
  • visit the imprisoned (Matthew 25:26-42).

James 1:27 says, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world”. This is what we are all about.

  • We believe in faith with works in that we show Christ’s love by meeting the communities’ needs and then ministering to their lives. Our focus is on children. AIDS has destroyed the family unit and we see children caring for children, grandparents bringing up their grandchildren. These children, if instructed how to live Godly lives and trust Christ, can break the cycle of AIDS and poverty.

The community of Haniville is a very poor community where people came together after being displaced in the old Apartheid system of South Africa pre 1994. There houses comprise tiny 2 rooms that accommodate up to 12 people, mainly children and many of them sleep on the floor.

The socio-economic conditions have also led to an explosion in HIV AIDS and we are starting to see the ravages of this pandemic with people now getting very sick after having contracted HIV up to 6 years ago.
